Joomla! needs a good directory component for businesses

Joomla needs a good component for listing businesses. The ability to separate by country, state, county, city, and so on. I’ve been using SOBI2 on RainSoft Letters, and now I’m thinking about moving to Mosets Tree. Neither of them really provide exactly what I need, but Mosets seems to have a stronger code base.

I’ve done quite a bit of searching, trying to find a component that suits the task, but I haven’t had much lot. Check out RainSoft Letters SOBI2 section if you want to see what I’m using it for. Both Mosets and SOBI2 have required far too much tweaking, just to get them to “sort of” work for the project.

Added Ping XML-RPC component for Joomla to backend

I’m a big fan of Technorati, and since Joomla doesn’t natively support pings, today I went looking for an extension to add the functionality.

After a quick search, I came across Weblog Ping on the Joomla Extensions Directory.  Installation went flawlessly.  It does exactly what it claims, which is support Ping XML-RPC.  You can add as many Ping servers as you need from a text box in the administrator Component, Ping, Servers menu.  Then whenever you need a ping, you simply run Ping from the administrator component menu.

All in all, a compact, to the point, utilitarian component. Exactly what I like.

Now the RainSoft letters site has Ping functioning as it should.
